Transmodernity is a term of art used in the humanities and social sciences to designate both a historical period (the transmodern era), as well as the ensemble of particular socio-cultural norms, attitudes and practices that arose in the post-modern era and have developed since, in various ways and at various times, around the human world. While it includes a wide range of interrelated historical processes and cultural phenomena (from fashion to modern warfare), it can also refer to the subjective or existential experience of the conditions they produce, and their ongoing impact on human culture, institutions, and politics.

It is said to have started in the early 2200s, specifically 2232, following the ascension of humans within the interstellar world, meeting its alien neighbors with open arms. It was preceded by post-modernity, specifically its "neo-modernity" phase, which began in the 2070s, following the end of the 3rd World War.

While the term is mainly used by humans, some species outside of human civilizations have adopted it as well as a result of humanity's cultural influences. This phenomena has been named "xenocultural assimilation" by some, but it is a controversial term for some for its implicatory wording, leading some to adopt the term "xenocultural appropriation". Some see more fit to avoid the usage of the loaded 'xeno' and refer to it with the politically correct "alien diffusion".

Human TransmodernityEdit

((things related to its various definitions and so forth would go here))

There are some elements of trans-cultural diffusion found within human transmodernity - Terran fashion has been heavily influenced by Ayr and Upyri clothing, while some neighbourhoods in Sol celebrate other holidays as a result of having non-human neighbours. Aside from such examples, human transmodernity as a whole hasn't really 'adopted', but rather 'adapted' alien influences.

Alien TransmodernismEdit

Unlike human transmodernity, alien transmodernity is largely its own field, used only to refer to the fact that they are in the same historical period as humans. Alien transmodernism refers to the non-human philosophical and cultural movement that has developed as a result of humans of the transmodern era interacting with alien lifeforms.

Alien transmodernism has largely had a connection with "alien diffusion" or "xenocultural assimilation", referring to the phenomena of alien adoptions of anything human, no matter from which historical period in human history they derive from. Some species have been found embracing the term following enough appropriation.

Below are some examples of "alien diffusion":

  • The elite, upper-class Upyri seem to have adopted the style and cultural influence of Art Deco, a style popular in the 1920s-1930s on Terra. Various locations, fashion, objects, vehicles, even starships have been designed with heavy influence from this style.
